Front Load Vocabulary

Front load vocabulary that may give ELLs trouble during the lesson.  Teach 3-5 vocabulary words before you start the lesson.  Write each vocabulary word on a sheet of paper accompanied by an illustration or photograph.  Ask the students to chorally repeat the word twice.  Put the word in context.  Ask for examples.  Another suggestion: for certain words, such as emotions, you can have students act out the word as they say it.  See TPR.

This topic is related to building background.  Concepts should be front loaded.  Context should be front loaded.
